Tradie Contract Co is built by a lawyer and a tradie, not AI

At Tradie Contract Co, we’re the dynamic duo of contracts: Aaron’s got the tools and Belinda’s got the law.

This means our done-for-you legal tradie templates are ready to use. Ready to plug right into your tradie business so you don’t lose sleep over the fine print.

Together they built Tradie Contract Co so tradies and their partners could grab the legal gear they need without:

  • shelling out thousands of hard earned dollars to a lawyer; or

  • downloading some dodgy overseas template that doesn’t fit Aussie law.

  • Belinda Johnson

    LAWYER

Lawyer, contract nerd and plain English translator with 20+ years experience helping Australian business owners, and especially tradies, stay out of trouble.

Belinda is passionate about accessible legals for all.

  • Aaron Johnson

    TRADIE

Tradie and business owner with 20+ years on the tools and running crews.

Aaron has seen every dodgy handshake deal under the sun and learned the hard way why you need it in wriring.

  • ready to move from “busy tradie” to professional tradie business.

FAQs

Do I still need a lawyer?

Our templates are lawyer-drafted and tradie-tested, built to cover the common risks we see every day in trade businesses. For most day-to-day quoting, jobs, and clients’ paperwork, a solid template gets you 90% of the way there.

You will still want a lawyer if you have something unusual or high-risk going on, such as big commercial projects.

Think of our templates as your reliable “baseline paperwork,” so you’re not starting from scratch every time.

Can I edit the templates myself?

Yes! That’s the whole point of our business. You’ll be able to fill in your business details, tweak job-specific info, and other things flexibly.

What we don’t recommend is rewriting the legal bits (the Terms). One small edit can quietly remove your right to charge for variations, recover costs, suspend works, or enforce payment. If you want to customise beyond the plug-and-play fields, get advice first.

Can I use the contracts more than once?

Yes, once you buy a template, you can use it again and again for your own business, across multiple jobs and multiple customers.

That’s why it’s worth getting proper paperwork in place, you set it up once, then you run it as part of your quoting and onboarding process going forward.

Why can’t I just use AI to get my contracts done?

Because AI doesn’t run your business, and it doesn’t carry the risk when something goes wrong.

AI can produce something that looks like a contract but it can miss Australian Consumer Law requirements, copy clauses that don’t fit Australian law or your industry.

If you’re using contracts to protect your cashflow and reduce disputes, you need drafting that’s intentional, Australian and built for the way tradies work.

Will Tradie Contract Co templates work in my state?

Yes, our templates are designed for Australian trade businesses and drafted to work nationally across Australia.

That said, some areas can be state-specific, such as security of payment rules. We handle this by drafting smartly and, where needed, giving state-based guidance so you can select the right option for where the job is. If you’re doing bigger projects or cross-border work regularly, it’s worth getting a legal check to make sure your process is tight.

How do my customers sign my Ts and Cs or accept them?

You’ve got a few options, depending on your process. But we have set up our terms in 3 parts so you can add them to your quoting software for acceptance via your software like Xero or Tradify or you can send it old school and use something like Docu Sign.

The key thing is, we keep it flexible so you decide!

Can I share them with my tradie bestie?

No. Our templates are licensed to your business only. Sharing with mates, other businesses or posting into Facebook groups isn’t allowed, even if you’ve “just changed the name”.

This isn’t us being difficult. It’s about being fair. If your bestie wants solid paperwork too, send them our way and they can grab a copy and know it’s properly set up for their business.

We offer an affiliate program, so let us know if you want to be part of it and get a cut from any referrals.
